This great red sparkly star unfolds from flat to make a dramatic Christmas decoration.
India is one of the world’s largest producers of handicrafts, but there is widespread exploitation of vulnerable adults and children in the industry. This Christmas star was produced by small groups of artisans, managed by a trading organisation buying on fair trade terms, and taking pains to ensure that the producers are not in thrall to moneylenders, and that women, especially, have the opportunity to develop skills and become self-sufficient.
